Welcome to these pages, There are 7 pages, each with four ( well nearly ) pictures. the pictures are 640 X 480 and about 40k ish so fairly small. I also have them in 1152 X 864 resolution, but they range around 300k. if there is one you really would like I could email it to you, but not to many.
What can be achieved with a digital camera is quite limited compared to a regular one, but I hope you can still make them out OK..
I'm afraid to
say the old place is pretty run down every window in any unoccupied buildings is
smashed and inside they are truly derelict. There is rubble and tangled iron
everywhere. The roads are really beat up and you have to take care. Children and
families who have bought into the housing play amongst the dangerous piles of
rubble and buildings.
You may be able to make out the Control Tower across the fence in one of the
shots. The Airfield is still used and not accessible, as we watched a dozen or so parachutists
drifting down near the hanger to the left They are just dots on the
picture.
Some of the buildings are in use as industrial units and I see they have used
some near to the housing sections for shops and a club. The old Commissary and
Exchange building looks like a welders shop now.
As you arrive at the main gate you are asked to report to the gate hut. The chap
was quite helpful and allowed me in. As you enter, you pass the most tidy and industrialized
section on your right, once past that it's all down hill. I drove to the
roundabout ( visible on the map, see Sculthorpe 53 ). Cut back to my left, then
back to the roundabout and took the next left and drove up to the Motor
workshop, and club house.
Just use the links down the side to navigate. There are some pictures of Sculthorpe Village on my Photopoint Album Click Here to go to my main album page when you've done here.
